Please join us in congratulating Dr. Ahmet Kuralay on the successful defense of his doctoral thesis, Molecular and Functional Mapping of Inputs to Aldosterone-Sensitive HSD2 Neurons that Regulate Sodium Appetite, on July 7, 2026.

Conducted in the laboratory of Jon Resch, PhD, Ahmet's research investigated the neural circuits that regulate sodium appetite by identifying and functionally mapping the inputs to aldosterone-sensitive HSD2 neurons. His work advances our understanding of how the brain detects and responds to the body's sodium needs, providing new insight into the neural mechanisms that help maintain fluid and electrolyte balance.

Throughout his time in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, Ahmet has been known not only for his scientific curiosity and dedication, but also for his infectious enthusiasm, generosity, and ability to brighten the day of those around him. His passion for neuroscience and genuine excitement for learning have made him a valued colleague and friend to many within our program.

We are incredibly proud of all that Ahmet has accomplished and grateful for the energy, kindness, and camaraderie he brought to our community. While he will certainly be missed, we look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes in the next chapter of his career.
