I am a neuropathologist with a particular interest in pediatric and developmental neuropathology. I am also the director of the University of Iowa Brain Bank.  Currently, I have two main research areas in my lab.

1. The role of the tau protein in human brain development and how this relates to the pathogenesis of adult neurodegenerative diseases

2. The mechanisms by which neonatal hypoxic-ischemic injury causes long term cognitive deficits and how this can be prevented
