Statement in Support of BIPOC
In summer 2020, protests in support of black lives swept the nation following the wrongful deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others. These protests played an integral role in bringing the systemic racism in America to the forefront of public discourse. The effects of the violence perpetrated against black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) were and continue to be felt deeply by program students, faculty, and staff.
The Neuroscience program has long been committed to the goals of promoting diversity and equity. However, in 2020 the program chose to make a firm, explicit, and public stance to support BIPOC individuals, especially within science and academia. The program has and continues to make several explicit statements to show our support of the BIPOC community both within our community and abroad; these commitments are detailed in a statement released June 24th, 2020.
