Competition in the Eastern Iowa Brain Bee is open to high school students grade 9-12. The winner* from this competition will be invited to the National Brain Bee to be held April 12-14, 2019 in Hershey, Pennsylvania at Penn State University Medical School.

*Individuals not residing in Eastern Iowa are not eligible to be the individual invited to represent the Eastern Iowa Brain Bee at the National Brain Bee.

  • Registration Form
    The 2019 Eastern Iowa Brain Bee will be held on Saturday, February 2.
    Enrollment is free for the Iowa Brain Bee, please use this form to enter your registration.  Online registration will close January 25, 2019.
  • What is a Brain Bee?
    The Brain Bee is a live Question and Answer competition that tests the neuroscience knowledge of high school students.  Students compete to determine who has the “best brain” on topics such as intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movement, stress, aging, sleep, addiction, Alzheimer's, and stroke.
  • Study Materials
    All questions for the Eastern Iowa Brain Bee will come from the Brain Facts book published by the Society for Neuroscience.

    The 2018 edition of Brain Facts is available as a free PDF, EPUB or MOBI fil or listen to an audio recording (also available through iTunes U). This updated primer on the brain and nervous system is the official study guide of the U.S. Brain Bee and a valuable resource for Brain Bee coordinators and students worldwide.
  • Prizes
First Place: The Eastern Iowa Brain Bee winner will receive a $1,500 Travel Award to compete at the National Brain Bee in (location TBD) on March 15-17, 2019.
Second Place:  The Eastern Iowa Brain Bee second place winner will receive $200.
Third Place:  The Eastern Iowa Brain Bee third place winner will receive $100.
