Serena Gumusoglu conducts research in her mentor's lab.

Banu Gumusoglu, PhD, a University of Iowa postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Iowa Neuroscience Institute, has won a 2023 Young Investigator Award from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.

Dr. Gumusoglu, a 2020 graduate of the UI Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the laboratories of Mark Santillan, MD, PhD, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and Donna Santillan, PhD, research associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

University of Iowa graduate student Brooke Yeager has won the 2023 Kwak-Ferguson Fellowship, a $10,000 award from the Iowa Neuroscience Institute for an upper level graduate student working in the area of neurodegenerative diseases. Brooke uses a multi-modal approach to address the neurophysiological origins of cognitive impairments in Parkinson’s disease. This fellowship is supported by a gift through the University of Iowa Center for Advancement.
