Research interests:

Anxiety disorders are a group of common and sometimes debilitating illnesses characterized by the core symptoms of fear, panic, and anxiety. I am interested in the molecular and neuroanatomical bases of fear, panic, and anxiety.

Current projects:

Acid-sensing ion channel-1a (ASIC1a) is a cation channel that is activated by extracellular acidosis. I am working on several projects that explore the role of ASIC1a and pH in fear- and anxiety-related behaviors.

Living in Iowa City:

The Iowa Neuroscience Program brings together faculty and students from both cognitive and molecular neuroscience creating a diverse, collaborative community.

“Iowa City really is the perfect place to go to graduate school. The city has enough to do to keep you busy when you have the time, and cheap enough that you can actually afford to go to a few things as well as live relatively comfortably on the stipend provided. Also, there are truly great people in the program.”
