Research Interests

Emotional Memory.

My research interests are in episodic event construction, the ability to generate past and future personal episodic events. I am testing the hypothesis that the hippocampus is critical for episodic event construction. To get at this question, I am taking advantage of the lesion database here at the University of Iowa to compare individuals with hippocampus-specific brain damage, non-specific brain damage, and intact brains.

Living in Iowa City

After almost five years in the Neuroscience Program, I can honestly say that I have no regrets about coming to Iowa City. New York City was a great undergraduate experience, but Iowa City has provided me with a friendly, creative, cheap, clean, and green living environment so that I have been able to focus on my class work and research projects. Nothing beats a 10 min bike ride to work, free buses, fresh locally grown veggies and pies at the farmers market, an almost unlimited supply of theater, comedy, live bands, political and sports events, awesome sushi and Thai food, wakeboarding, and, of course, the $1 pitchers of beer. Finally, the program staff will treat you like family and most importantly, you will make graduate friends for life. I will miss this place.
