Research Interests

I am working with Dr. Grabowski and colleagues on a series of language production fMRI experiments designed to investigate the neural systems involved with lexical retrieval. We are currently exploring the use of multivariate pattern classification techniques to operationalize and test theories of brain functioning that entail levels of abstraction, such as the Dr. Damasio's neural systems convergence zone theory, in these data. I plan to use such techniques in my thesis work to explore stereotype application and implicit (social) cognition.

Living in Iowa City

My experience in the Neuroscience Program at the University of Iowa has been very positive. I am impressed with the number of faculty who possess both exceptional technical expertise and conceptual knowledge in specific domains of neuroscience, and the ability of the faculty to integrate these two facets of knowledge. The faculty with whom I have interacted, both through research and classes, are extremely dedicated to teaching students. The Iowa City environment, beyond the University, is also great. It has a wonderful combination of small town living (little traffic, affordable housing, etc.) and accessibility to cultural activities (book readings, musical performances, etc.) that are generally only found in much larger cities.
